Kingston is a town on the outskirts of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Nestled 12 km south of the city between and around several hills, Kingston is the seat of the Kingborough Council, and today serves as the gateway between Hobart and the D'Entrecasteaux Channel region, which meets the Derwent River nearby. It is one of the fastest-growing regions in Tasmania.[3] The Kingston-Huntingfield statistical area had an estimated population of 13,473 in June 2021.[4]
Although the Kingston-Blackmans Bay region is statistically classed as a separate urban area to Hobart by the ABS,[5] Kingston is also part of the Greater Hobart statistical area.[6]
In 1804, the botanist Robert Brown visited the area. Browns River, that runs from Mount Wellington to Kingston Beach is named after him. The area was settled in 1808 by Thomas Lucas and his family, who were evacuated from Norfolk Island, and quickly the land became actively used by many pioneers who spread out to form the beginnings of Kingston's localities today.[7] In its early years, the area was also named after Brown, but when the population grew and a commercial district was established, Kingston was proclaimed a township in 1851.[7]
The Kingston region comprises many suburban estates, including Blackmans Bay and Kingston Beach.
Kingston has close ties with the Dutch community, where after 1950 many post-war immigrants moved to an area they called 'Little Groningen' (today Firthside). The Kingston Dutch community were primarily members of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia, which they set up the local church of in 1952. Calvin Christian School was founded by the Dutch community in 1962.[8]
Kingston was named by the Best Suburb in Australia for families by Aussie Home Loans in their annual study of 3800 Australian towns.[9]

Prompt and professional. I have only ever had good experiences with the staff at Howrah Plumbing. They have always made an effort to attend within the same day or next day and nothing has ever been too much of a problem. Communication is great and they always make sure to explain things well.
Big Thank you to Simon and Nathan. They did well and on time as I requested. Thank you thank you 🙏. 5 stars * absolutely.
Very impressed by the service provided today by Howrah Plumbing. Booking online was simple and drew an immediate response from the team. Corey was able to attend an hour earlier than scheduled. He not only worked hard to clear a stubborn blockage in a drain but offered very good advice re: possible causes, what to do if the problem was to recur in the near future. A very friendly, professional operator... many thanks, Corey. Great work. Will certainly contact Howrah Plumbing again should we need their service and advice. The recurrence of a blocked drain brought Brodie along to do the job on 25/11/24. He was prompt and very professional in attending to the problem and had it fixed in no time. He offered an additional service - that of a job inspection via camera - and we both decided it was not necessary given that water was moving swiftly thru the drain again. Brodie then devoted several minutes to writing a detailed report on the completed job and this was included along with the invoice submitted. Great work, Brodie!
Very professional!!! The fella that came to work on my hot water cylinder was great! He was more than happy to explain everything. He was not condescending at all. I felt comfortable and safe the whole time. I will definitely be using Howrah Plumbing next time. Thankyou!
Always worth talking to companies before you post reviews. I had an issue with being charged for multiple issues with a new hot water system. On questioning it, Howrah Plumbing were very quick to follow up and agreed to cover the costs of the repairs. I was very happy with how reasonable they were. Great customer service.
